FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is TNR?

TNR is the Trap, Neuter, and Return of feral community cats. Oftentimes, this process includes vaccination as well!

Can you socialize a feral cat?

It is very difficult to socialize cats once they are 12 weeks or older. These cats are not homeless, the outdoors is their home! Attempting to socialize them can actually be a traumatic experience for the cat.

Where are the cats released?

The cats are released back to the community where they were found. Cats are not just bonded to their colonies but they are bonded to their environments. They know their homes and moving them to a new location will decrease their chance of survival.

How can I tell if a cat is a stray?

Stray cats are typically very friendly and approachable. If a cat allows you to approach it or even pet it, chances are it is a stray! Contact your local no-kill animal rescue to help find this cat a home.

What areas do you service?

We service North Miami-Dade but we can be flexible in some circumstances!

What is an ear tip?

An ear tip is the universal symbol used to identify a feral cat that has been neutered. The top 3/8 inch of the cat's ear is surgically removed during surgery.

What is a Community Cat?

An un-owned, un-socialized cat who lives his/her life outdoors. That is different than a stray cat who has been socialized around humans, but was abandoned or lost outdoors.

How can Ferry's Ferals help?

If you have a feral cat that you would like to go through our program, reach out to us! We are able to come to you, set up humane traps, have the cat neutered and return it back to its community!

What are the benefits of TNR?

TNR cats live happier and healthier lives! TNR is also the most cost-effective and humane way to control the feral cat population.

Does the ear tip hurt the cat?

This is a painless procedure because it is completed while the cat is still under sedation from being neutered. The ear tip does not affect them, and is a clear visual signal for us. Feral cats without a tip should go through TNR.

How can I tell if a cat is feral?

Typically born from feral or stray cats, feral cats are accustomed to surviving outdoors and are fearful of humans who attempt to approach them.

How much do you charge for TNR?

We don't charge at all! Of course, donations are always welcome
